Part Time Operations Technician

Description

The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 has an opening for the role of part time Operations Technician, beginning in May 2025.

This role is temporary for 6 months but has the potential for renewal.

You will work approximately 15 to 21.5 hours per week and you must be available to work Saturdays, Sundays and
holidays. Hours of work will typically be 9am to 5pm but may change based on the needs of the Museum.

The hourly rate is $17.75 plus 4% vacation pay.

Job Summary

The Operations Technician monitors, maintains, and troubleshoots equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations. They also work with museum teams for event set-up including moving tables and chairs and pre-setting audiovisual equipment.

The Operations Technician is an important team member who helps provide an enjoyable and safe experience for Museum visitors. This position encompasses various duties from daily building maintenance to internal events and assisting with staff requests.

Responsibilities
·        Interact in a professional and respectful manner with staff, public and clients as required
·        Set up and 'take down' of all needed audio equipment for Museum programs when an outside contractor has not been contracted
·        Set up and connect lectern with both power and microphone
·        Pre-set and operate house lights, stage lights and footlights
·        Adjust audio levels and audio sources
·        Assist with routine maintenance, repairs and perform preventative maintenance duties
·        Monitor, operate, and maintain computer-controlled systems that adjust building temperature
·        Assist in the scheduling of projects and work arrangements to provide minimum interference with operational duties and assignments.
·        Lift and move furniture within building
·        Assist with internal events, including load ins and outs & set ups as required (including working weekends, evenings and holidays)
·        Identify and address issues.
·        Follow safety protocols.
·        Assist Exhibition Technician by identifying technical issues in Exhibit spaces.

Skills and Qualifications –Required

·        Able to work independently and able to accept supervision
·        Ability to work a flexible schedule
·        Basic audio-visual experience
·        Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in general building and maintenance work
·        Ability to physically perform the essential functions of the job; standing on feet, bend, stoop, reach, lifting (up to 85lbs), work safely from a ladder

Skills and Qualifications –Desired
 
·        Experience in maintenance skills, such as painting, minor drywall etc.
